Legacy
The 2012 Games are a once in a lifetime opportunity for Dorset to create positive change, regeneration and a sustainable legacy for all. 2012 is a catalyst, an accelerant, a springboard and a lever for change. There are significant social, cultural, sporting, and business opportunities to be won before, during and beyond 2012. To win them requires drive, vision, new thinking, entrepreneurialism, creativity, risk, belief, positive attitudes and actions.
Already there is over £450 million of private and public sector 2012 inspired investment happening in a range wide range of legacy projects from the Weymouth Relief Road to the redevelopment of Bournemouth Airport.
Our legacy vision is not just about bricks, mortar and physical infrastructure; it is about education, skills, employment and social regeneration; it is an opportunity for all of us to raise our game; it is about each and every one of us developing a proud and positive attitude that we can share with the world when the world comes to visit in 2012.
Money is vital but ethos and belief is an equal generator of change. Attitudes are changing across the region, be part of the team - come and join us! Communities are coming together, organisations are working together, and businesses are collaborating together.
So the £450 million question is - where is this legacy? Where can I find projects surrounding legacy for Dorset? The answer can be found under five themes which cover Dorset's 2012 legacy. From our aspirations right through to our success stories all legacy related projects can be found in the following five themes:
- Community and wellbeing
- Economy and infrastructure.
- Education and skills
- Environment and sustainability
- Sports and culture
Individuals, organisations and partnerships across Dorset are working hard to deliver our legacy and take advantage of any 2012 opportunities that arise - and they do, even in times of recession and credit crunch.
