Legacy

Countdown

Environment and Sustainability is a legacy theme that is key to life in the 21st Century. The 2012 Games has advocated from the beginning. London 2012 is priding itself on being a ‘green games'; from being able to reuse street bunting to washing contaminated soil at the official 2012 Olympic Venue in London! Here are a few example of what Dorset is doing to with regard to Environment and Sustainability of 2012 legacy opportunities.

  • The expansion of the walking and cycle networks in Weymouth is in progress including a new bridge on the Rodwell Trail at Newstead Road.

  • Portland Marina generates renewable energy from three turbines.

  • The Olympic Transport package business case, which aims to improve the public transport network, connectivity and interchanges, is to be presented to the Department for Transport imminently. If successful it will, not only reduce traffic congestion and transport time but carbon omissions as well.

  • The ODA, as part of their transport vision are aiming for 100% of spectators during Games times to be using public transport - once again reducing carbon missions.

In addition to the above examples, all projects in Dorset associated with 2012 are advocating Environment and Sustainability whether that is encouraging e- activity and reducing paper to right through to car sharing and waste management.
